Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA)

Bay Mills Community College is a signatory to the Michigan Transfer Agreement. This agreement is designed to facilitate transfer from community colleges to baccalaureate colleges and universities in Michigan. The agreement provides for transferability of up to 30 semester credits to meet many (in some cases all) of the General Education Requirements at participating Michigan four-year degree colleges and universities.

To fulfill the Michigan Transfer Agreement, students must successfully complete at least 30 credits, with at least a 2.0 in each course. These credits, which will be certified by a Michigan community college, should be met according to the following distribution:

  • 1 course in English Composition
  • A second course in English Composition or 1 course in Communications
  • 1 course in Mathematics

Course options include: College Algebra, Analytic Trigonometry and Statistical Methods

  • 2 courses in Social Sciences

Courses must be taken in more than one academic discipline. Course options may include but are not limited to the following: Economics, Corrections, Education, Geography, History, Native American Studies, Psychology, Political Science and Sociology.

  • 2 courses in Humanities and Fine Arts

Courses must be taken in more than one academic discipline. Course options may include but are not limited to the following: Art, Ojibwe Language, History, Literature, Music, Native American Studies

  • 2 courses in Natural Sciences

Courses must be taken in more than one academic discipline and include at least one laboratory experience. Course options may include but are not limited to the following: Biology, Chemistry, Natural Science and Physics. 
Students are encouraged to meet with their academic advisors to select the appropriate courses that fulfill the Michigan Transfer Agreement requirements.
