IMPORTANT UPDATE
BMCC is updating our website! The website may be down for periods of time during the transition starting on May 21st, 2024. For a few weeks after the transition we will have a link to this old website to give folks the opportunity to find content before we fully retire the old media and content. If you have questions or concerns please submit a ticket at support.bmcc.edu so the IT team can assist you.

Welcome new students, faculty, and staff! If you're having trouble accessing your BMCC email, Moodle, Student Records, etc. you can submit a ticket at support.bmcc.edu.

Why am I still considered a dependent student? I am 21 years old and haven’t lived with my parents for years.

Why am I still considered a dependent student? I am 21 years old and haven’t lived with my parents for years.

Undergraduate students who are under the age of 24 are considered to be dependent for federal student aid purposes unless they are married, have dependents other than a spouse for which they provide more than half of their support, are an orphan or ward of the court, are a veteran or active duty member of the U.S. Armed Forces, or satisfy other very limited criteria. If a student who is under the age of 24 does not satisfy one of these criteria, the odds of being considered independent are very slim. If you believe that you should be considered independent due to a unique circumstance, please contact the BMCC Financial Aid Office.
